Target Corp. Sets Sights on Diverse Demographic
Glimpse any Target TV commercial or
Sunday-paper circular, and you’ll see models of diversity: Caucasian,
Hispanic, Black, Asian, able-bodied, disabled, straight, gay. No, it’s
not just slick advertising designed to propel some trendy, politically
correct, multicultural buzzword. You’ll also see diversity consistently
reflected in the company’s Target Team members working in stores and
corporate offices; suppliers; community activities; online calendar of
cultural events and holidays; merchandise; and, not so coincidentally,

Immigrants Create New Markets for Local Businesses
As Rochester’s population grows and
diversifies, its business community struggles to define and target new
immigrant markets.
“Years
ago, when car dealerships finally realized that women were decision
makers, they started to target women with their advertising,” explains
Station Manager Liz Dahlen, who has been with KTTC for the past 13
years.
“When Rochester
businesses realize where their markets are, or where they’d like to

Diversity Council Expands Training Offerings
The Diversity Council offers interactive
workshops and multimedia presentations to help businesses understand and
meet the challenges of our changing community. We now have an expanded
menu of 16 workshops on a variety of topics designed to fit a range of
time frames. The length of most workshops can also be customized to
meet the needs of your business. Complimentary training is offered as a
benefit for our corporate members; nonmembers may also request the
