June 1st is a Uniform Day

Even though June 1st is a “first Friday,” students should be in uniform since this is our final day together, and it is also a Mass day. Thanks for your help.

Pastry Puffins Pick Up

A reminder that your Pastry Puffin orders will be available to pick up between 3pm - 6pm on Wednesday, May 30th. These will be in the conference room at St. John (across from the office) and in the hallway by the gym at St. Pius . If you have students at both sites, your Puffins will be delivered to the site at which you turned in your order form.

No Tuesday or Wednesday Masses

Due to the end-of-year Mass on Friday, June 1st, there will not be Masses at St. John (Tuesday) or St. Pius (Wednesday), next week.

Joint Mass and Final Day Dismissal

The final joint Mass for St. John the Evangelist/St. Pius X School will be held at St. Pius Church beginning at 10:30 am on Friday, June 1st.. All K-7 students will be dismissed from St. Pius at approximately 11:45 am. Please note the following information regarding the final morning of school for K-7 students:

- Mass will begin at 10:30 am in the St. Pius X Church. Parents/guardians are invited to attend. Parents and other adult visitors are asked to sit in the rear portion of each section in order to insure that all students, K-7, will be able to sit with their classmates and teachers.

- Following Mass, at approximately 11:30 am, all K-4 students will return to their classrooms, and 5-7 students will remain seated.

- Parents/guardians attending Mass may pick up their children (5-7 in the church and K-4 in the classrooms) between 11:35 and 11:45 am.

- At 11:45 am, all remaining students will be escorted by teachers to the St. Pius playground on the west side of the school for parent/guardian pick-up.

- Faculty and staff from St. John and St. Pius will be available to assist students in finding their rides.

Keep Saving Those Pop Tops

The first graders in Mrs. Smith’s class saved pop tabs for the Ronald McDonald House where the money will be used for the children who stay at the Ronald McDonald House. But we’re not done, we would like to ask you to continue collecting pop tabs for us during the summer and my new class will turn them in next fall. Please send your pop tabs to our room any time you want. We’ll take it from there. Thanks so much, Mrs. Smith’s First Grade Class

Seeds of Faith Tuition Assistance Endowment

We have received information from the Diocese of Winona regarding the Seeds of Faith Tuition Assistance Endowment. This need-based fund was established to provide additional financial assistance to families who are not able to enroll their students in Catholic schools because of limited income and work opportunities. (This is not an academic scholarship fund.) The Board of Directors of the Diocese of Winona Foundation has released approximately $100,000 in endowment earnings for distribution in the form of financial need-based scholarships. Applications are now available in parish and school offices. Two sections (B and G) of the application need to be completed by the pastor and postmarked on or before May 31, 2012. Applications will be reviewed by a committee that will make recommendations to the bishop for the award. Every family that applies will receive a letter acknowledging receipt of the application, and then, later in the summer, informing them as to whether an award has been made. Please contact the school or your parish for more information.

Summer Contact of Counselors

The RCS school counselors would like parents to know how to reach them should you have questions over the summer. Each counselor does check into their school email periodically, but if you have an urgent need, Nelle Moriarty works during the summer at Bluestem Center and would be available to either answer your questions or get a hold of your counselor. Her email address is nmoriarty@bluestemcenter.com and her phone number is 282-1009. The school counselors also have a list of mental health providers in the Rochester area if you are considering looking into professional help for your child. Thank you for the privilege of working with your children. They are a constant source of amazement and joy to us. (Tracy Lund, Nelle Moriarty, Lisa Storey)

No Lunches Beginning May 29th

Please be aware that the final day for hot lunch at St. John and at St. Pius will be Friday, May 25th. Students will need to bring a cold lunch and beverage for lunch during the final three full days of school. Also, to help us with the end-of-year processing, we would appreciate it if all lunch accounts could be brought up to date by June 1st. Thank you.

Parking Reminder at St. Pius

Please do not park in front of the St. Pius rectory so that people can get into the rectory for daily business. Thank you for help.
