Diversity of Thinking Styles: Johnson & Johnson's Policy of Inclusion
In 1943,
when Gen. Robert Wood Johnson II, son of Johnson & Johnson’s
founder, penned the company’s forward-looking credo, industrial heads turned after learning about
the doctrine’s focus on customers, employees, communities and
shareholders – in that order. Years later, that elegantly simple,
one-page document also forged the beginnings of J&J’s Diversity Vision Statement, which declares that

operating companies throughout the world in order to “embrace our
differences and drive innovation to accelerate
growth.”

the distinct backgrounds, insights, capabilities, ideas and gifts that
everyone brings in order to grow J&J’s myriad health-care
businesses. Julius Pryor talked with the Diversity Council about how
a corporate culture that values different ways of thinking fosters
innovation and creativity. Read more
