Rochester
Can be Proud of their Plumbers
Members of
Rochester Plumbers Local #6 volunteered their skills and their Saturday
to repair and inspect plumbing for low-income seniors and disabled
homeowners during the annual “Water’s Off” Project held March 29th,
2008. Over 20 dedicated union volunteers repaired and inspected 16
homes. Parts and vehicles were volunteered by signatory plumbing
contractors which allowed this to be completely free for some very
grateful homeowners.
“I think most of
our members appreciate giving back to the community as much as the
needy enjoy receiving the help,” according to Tony Regner, Rochester
Plumber/Pipefitters Local #6 Business Manager. Regner added, “This is
something you do because it’s the right thing to do and you see that on
the homeowners faces.”
Rochester is part
of a statewide effort which is the largest Water’s Off volunteer
Program in the nation. This year 179 union plumbers volunteered from
Rochester, Minneapolis, St. Cloud, St. Paul, and the Mankato areas and
serviced 132 homes. The volunteered service work is valued at over
$89,000.
Homeowners were pre-qualified with the
help of Ann Crowe who heads up the Olmsted Community Services Energy
Assistance Program.
