New Content Added to Diversity Toolkit
The need
to bridge language barriers for immigrants is common knowledge.
Increasing numbers of businesses are providing advertising, forms, and
websites in multiple languages. Healthcare providers and schools hire
interpreters to help them communicate. Companies with a high percentage
of immigrant workers may offer English classes to help their employees
become more productive and equip them for success.
But what about
nonverbal communication? Facial expressions, body language, and the
unwritten rules for eye contact also vary across cultures. Even
internationals with excellent English generally maintain the nonverbal
cues of their home culture, cues that are used to convey understanding,
disagreement, interest, anger, respect, and much more. The Diversity
