Greetings from the Children's Museum of Rochester!
CMR gains momentum with first exhibit, new website, first fundraiser
Our
efforts to establish a Children's Museum of Rochester (CMR) have
continued to gain momentum and generate excitement in the community.
In recent months, we've taken some significant steps in our
efforts to establish a CMR.
Kids and
parents love our first mini-exhibit, an interactive playhouse dubbed
"CMR Under Construction,"
that we are setting up at community events around Rochester. The
playhouse, built for CMR by Weis Builders, showcases the educational fun
that a children's museum can provide. It teaches about
construction by giving kids hands-on opportunities to use magnetic
siding, paint walls with water, connect circuits to make doorbells
ring, attach and remove knobs, and more. Look for our exhibit at
Rochesterfest's Family Fun Night on June 24 and on a float in the
Rochesterfest parade on June 26!
Our newly
redesigned website includes extensive content that
will help us educate website visitors about why Rochester is the
perfect place for a children's museum. Corporate Web Services
designed the site for us, and it now includes thorough descriptions of
what a children's museum is, a news section with links to our media mentions, an FAQs section that addresses the inquiries we commonly
receive, and a Kids' Zone that solicits input from our youngest
supporters and gives your kids an opportunity to express their
creativity. Please visit us online for all the latest news and info!
And we are also on Facebook, so check us out there,
too.
Our first fundraising event, held
March 22 at BB's Pizzaria, was a huge success! We
haven't officially kicked off our capital campaign, but several
hundred people showed up to "eat some pizza and raise some
dough" at an informal fundraiser. The event raised more than $700
for CMR, which was 25 percent of the proceeds of BB's pizza sales
that day. Thank you, BB's! Find out about future fundraising
events on our Events page, and donate to CMR through our Giving page.

We're looking for a place to call home!
We are
looking for an existing building in which to house the first-ever
Children's Museum of Rochester. Our research has shown that most
successful Children's Museums start out in buildings that are
donated or made available for a bargain, and we hope to find such a
deal. If you have ideas for a building that might be right for us,
please email us at info@childrensmuseumrochester.org.

Listen to us on the radio and look for us on TV
There are
lots of ways to get the scoop about CMR. The CMR has been written
about recently in our local newspaper and magazines, as well as getting
air time on the radio. With the help of Tracy McCray, the CMR produced
some Public Service Announcements about our project that were aired
heavily on local radio stations in March and April, 2009. You can
listen to CMR president Scott Liebl, CMR vice president Melissa
Brinkman, and CMR supporter Hadley (age 10) on the radio ads, which are
accessible via our News page. Also, Ali Lucia and Fox 47 are
helping CMR film some TV Public Service Announcements that should begin
airing on Fox 47 in late June.

About CMR
The
Children's Museum of Rochester (CMR) is a nonprofit organization
dedicated to creating and maintaining a permanent children's
museum in our community.
We're all
local parents--educators, businesspeople, stay-at-home parents,
healthcare professionals--with the dream of providing children the
opportunity to discover the world around them in a hands-on, personal
way.
We have a 19-member Board of Directors.
