cutting edge of the industry by introducing newly developed materials
and work processes to our Apprentices and Journey Level Workers. We
have 1707 active Journeyman and 233 Apprentices. The Apprentices
attend 144 training hours per year. Our daytime classes consist of
Bricklayers, Blocklayers, Stone Masons, and Pointer, Cleaner, Caulkers.
Our Evening classes consist of Tile Finishers, Tilelayers, and Terrazzo
Finishers. In 2008 we had 10,196 total journeyman upgrade hours. In
total over 20,000 hours of training was provided for Journeyman and
Apprentices.
The programs we offer reach out to many
different audiences within the industry. In May every year we hold a
six-week prejob program which is held Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM
until 3:30 PM. The goal of this program is to provide the attendees
with basic skills to make them employable in the masonry trade. In the
last couple years we have also been developing a youth outreach program
with St. Paul Schools to give the opportunity for high school students
to explore our union as well as affiliated unions. An annual masonry
training workshop that is custom designed for the undergrad students at
the University Of Minnesota School Of Architecture. It helps them
become familiar with masonry materials design and build with them. We
feel that our programs offer a wide variety of subjects that appeal to
multiple skill levels of tradesmen and design
professions.
